History
In the first ten years of Ajax the kit was a red-white striped shirt, white shorts and black socks. When Ajax promoted in 1911 into the First Class Division a problem arrised. The NVB (without the K as the association wasn't royal yet) didn't allow two teams to play with the same kit. Sparta Rotterdam already played with the same shirt, so Ajax had to look for an alternative.
In the same time the footballclub VVV (Veni Vidi Vici) from Amsterdam decided to stop playing football. Some players moved from VVV to Ajax and brought their footballshirt with them, a white shirt with a red vertical stripe in the middle. So thanks to the NVB, Sparta and VVV the well-known white shirt with the red lane came to Ajax Amsterdam.
